"And what, Socrates, is the food of the soul?
Surely, I said, Knowledge is the food of the soul"

The world is changing, rapidly. A part of us will be feeling grief and loss. The old world is crumbling and a new one is being created. This is going to trigger many feelings. Hopelessness, despair, fear, powerlessness, just to name a few. It is completely normal to feel like this, when your job is under threat, money is stretched and your rights and freedoms are being stomped on. Unfortunately for many, these kinds of feelings, when they persist beyond a gloomy day or two, can lead to depression, and a sense of there being no way out. And ultimately a desire to make it all stop.

If we can recognise those feelings for what they are as soon as they arise then we can interrupt this negative loop.
Here is a list of things that may help divert the spiral of depression.
  • Exercise daily- the best medicine is movement.
  • Mind map. Drawing or writing down how you feel can help to give more space in your thoughts for solution-based thinking.
  • Spend a day without junk food, alcohol or other substances that depress the body.
  • Seek out natural remedies for healthy brain and body function, herbs such as Withania, St Johns Wort and Rhodiola are supportive. Fish oil and Hemp seed oil support brain function.
  • Take a multi-species probiotic, our gut-brain axis is fundamental to healthy brain function and mood control.
  • Talk to your Doctor if feelings are severe.
  • Talk to someone, don’t limit yourself to one group, talk to many people.
  • If you see or know someone who is spiraling downwards then be there for them. They need you right now.
  • Step out and look objectively at what concerns you, often we are so immersed in what we perceive as a problem that we miss that it may in fact be a blessing.

We are being given an opportunity, to let go of what no longer serves us and create a new reality. We are stepping into the future, it is truly what we make of it. The possibilities are only limited by our imagination. And the future is made all the more brighter with YOU in it. X
